Chicane – No Ordinary Morning

If there was nothing that I could say
Turned your back and you just walked away
Leaves me numb inside I think of you
Together is all I knew

We moved too fast, but I had no sign
I would try to turn the hands of time
I looked to you for a reason why
The love we had passed me by

And as the sun would set you would rise
Fall from the sky into paradise
Is there no light in your heart for me
You’ve closed your eyes you don’t longer see

There were no lies between me and you
You said nothing of what you knew
But there was still something in your eyes
Left me helpless and paralyzed

You could give a million reasons
Change the world and change the tides
Could not give me the secrets
Of your heart and of your mind
In the darkness that surrounds me
Now there…

The Corrs – Dreams (1998)

Director Dani Jacobs flew The Corrs to Singapore to film the video for Dreams.

Jacobs said:

“I had never been to Singapore and foolishly suggested to the band that the video would have a “dreamy, oriental” feel to it. When I got there I discovered everything looked very modern and Westernised, but luckily we found the only Chinese temple in town (the Thian Hock Keng temple). It was very hot and humid but the band were able to rush back to an air conditioned trailer in between takes. Everywhere I have shot The Corrs I’ve found the local crews are really enthusiastic about working with the band because of the following they have in that country.”

Dreams was filmed in April 1998.

Youssou N’Dour – 7 Seconds ft. Neneh Cherry

Lyrics:

Boul ma sene, boul ma guiss madi re nga fokni mane
Khamouma li neka thi sama souf ak thi guinaw
Beugouma kouma khol oaldine yaw li neka si yaw
mo ne si man, li ne si mane moye dilene diapale

Roughneck and rudeness,
We should be using, on the ones who practice wicked charms
For the sword and the stone
Bad to the bone
Battle is not over
Even when it’s won

And when a child is born into this world
It has no concept
Of the tone the skin is living in
It’s not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I’ll be waiting
It’s not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I’ll be waiting

Jon Hopkins – Abandon Window

Jon Hopkins:

‘Abandon Window’ is a track that was actually written about the tsunami and earthquake in Japan (2011). It was through a special compilation that donated money (‘For Nihon’) to that, then I rerecorded it for this record.

It’s quite morbid subject, it’s about escaping from life.

If you’re crushed under buildings, the point at which you give up and just float away is the inspiration for that track really, trying to image that feeling when your soul escapes.
